January 26:
John Morris, a Dominican priest and professorat the College of St. Mary in Moraga, CA, will givean overview of Catholic teaching on social justice,highlighting the Catholic Church’s teaching aboutlabor unions and immigration.
January 27:
Ramon Ramirez, Co-founder and President ofPineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste (PCUN),will describe the lives of Northwest farmworkers, theircurrent labor concerns, and the role of the union. Hewill also assess the future of the union and leadershipdevelopment among the members.
After this presentation, Ramirez and Morris will discusstheir ideas with the audience, and Javier Lara, the unionʼsCommunity Organizer, will provide information aboutthe farmworkers’ new leadership training center, underconstruction in Woodburn.
